Old New Stuff
12/17/06

So what is Sybil up to you ask? Well let me tell ya'. We're making a record. We're working on a DVD. We're eating our weight in Christmas goodies. We're taking care of all of those things that need taking care of so that we may come out with our balls a blazin' in the big '07. So keep your ear to the ground we'll be back before you know it. In the meantime, check out the new TV commercial in the video section and on our myspace site. It stars none other than our own bass player extraordinaire, Rob Sides, and a great local actor named Johnny Vacca - yes he actually owns those clothes. And just to make sure we we're keeping it in the Sybil family, this bit of future CLIO winning advertising was written and directed by none other than skin basher supreme, Ryan Craig, and shot and edited by the father of all things Sybil, Robert Murphy.

We've got another spot coming soon starring the talented and incredibly patient (you have no idea how patient) April Whitmore. So keep an eye out, it's gonna be sooooo good.

So we're driving to something called the Bodeaux Fest. It's out in the middle of nowhere and considering that it gets dark at about 3:00pm now, it's pitch black as well. We have no idea what to expect, no set gig time, no idea about other bands on the bill and no idea about gear and backline. So needless to say I'm a tad skeptical as to the potential of this gig. And upon our arrival, my fears were not at all allayed, but solidified by the lone gas powered generator that was to provide our electrical support for the show, as it ran out of fuel soon after our arrival. So as we try to set up gear and find everything we need to in the dark, the magic roar of the generator kicks back on and the gods were laughing, anxiously waiting to teach us, never judge a book by it's cover.

As soon as we're set up and we kick into the first few notes of All I Like, we were greeted by an unbelieveably enthusiastic and gracious crowd that seemed to grow before our very eyes. People were there to blow the roof off the joint (no small feat considering it was an outdoor gig). They were young and old, black and white, dancing well and not so well, doing backflips and shaking every body part they had all in the name of having a great time and jamming to some great tunes. Unlike the typical 6th street gig, these people were there to hear something good, something original and they were not afraid to show their appreciation for a song even if it hasn't been shoved down their throat by Clear Channel or Cox. I have to tell you that we all had a great time and could not be more grateful for the opportunity to play.

So a very special thanks goes out to Brian and James for throwing a great and unique shindig and allowing us to play and another special thanks goes out to Rob for getting us the gig and rocking some sweet bass too. And last but not least, to all the people that we didn't get a chance to meet but that were showing their support by rocking their asses off, we truly apreciate it.

Thanks again and here's to another Bodeaux Fest.
